If Your Dog Suffers from Stress/anxiety, You Need To Understand This System....

There is one system in your dogs body that doesn’t always get a lot of air time. But this system is actually one of the most important systems to help your dog maintain health and wellbeing, but in particular your dogs brain and mental health. SO today I want to explore this system a little. Let’s find out why this system is so important especially if your dog suffers from any anxiety or depression issues and some natural ways, one in particular that can have a big impact on supporting this important body system. So stay tuned for more.

So what on earth am I talking about today? Well some of you may already know the name of this body system known as the endocannabinoid system…..some of you would know this if you have been using CBD oil with your pet. The endocannabinoid system doesn’t get talked about a lot but it actually has a profound impact on your dogs health. Let’s look at what it is and why its so important firstly. The endocannabinoid system or(ECS) is actually a major biological system that all mammals have (including dogs and humans) that helps keep balance within the body.- think of this system as a signalling system within the body. This system helps regulate more than 15 major functions by using what are known as cannabinoids (endocannabinoids)and cannabinoid receptors. These cannabinoids are actually very similar to those found in cannabis or marijuana. The ECS is one of the most important ways your dog maintains what is known as homoeostasis (where the body keeps everything in balance and harmony)through this signalling or messaging system- and the better and more efficiently the messages come through, the more balanced your dogs body becomes, So the ECS is made up of these naturally occurring endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors – endocannabinoids are chemical messengers that are predominantly found in the brain that help the brain communicate to the nervous system and the rest of the body. And actually did you know that our dogs have many more of these receptors in their brains than we do. These endocannabinoids are especially important for your dogs nervous system and their immune systems. You can think of the endocannabinoids and cannabinoid receptors like a lock and key that match together And collectively, they are responsible for influencing stress levels, sleep, pain and inflammation and general mood. Along with a number of other major functions.
